Coach Sappho's Couples Circles

Frequently Asked Questions...

What are Coach Sappho's "Couples Circles?"

Coach Sappho's Couples Circles are amazingly unique 'safe and sacred spaces' created especially for lesbian couples. Each circle is small - from three to five couples - seeking to deepen their relationship, and is led by a trained relationship coach.

Why is a Couples Circle Important?

Being in a fulfilling long-term committed relationship requires sustained effort, and on-going support to survive and thrive.  No-one is successful alone.  Particularly in the love arena, couples will come across situations that are difficult for them to solve, because of the emotions and investment involved.

Coach Sappho's Couples Circles are the missing link between isolation (a common problem in the lesbian community) and a relationship that reaches it's true potential.

How does a Couples Circle work?

We meet three times a month via teleconference, for 90 minutes each time.  All circle couples are encouraged to attend Coach Sappho's Annual Retreats for Lesbian Couples (travel and registration for the retreat is additional).

BONUS:  Currently, FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY, as part of your registration into the circle, we are also including a 30 minute one-on-one couples coaching session with your coach, which you can choose to complete at anytime, up until 30 days after the end of the circle.

Each Circle meeting is an opportunity to learn and practice new, more effective ways of 'being' with one another.  Each meeting builds upon the ones before it, as couples increase their skills, their satisfaction and the helpful working relationship and bonds they develop with the other couples.

In addition, your coach will reveal to you the latest research-based secrets to preventing relationship breakup, deepening relationship satisfaction and you will have a chance to begin practicing those secrets in your relationship.

A typical circle meeting goes like this:

1. Reading or Teaching: Open meeting with a reading or educational lesson chosen by the coach.

2. Appreciations: Going around the circle, each person shares with their partner 5 things they appreciate about them, the receiver mirroring each one, then 5 things they appreciate about themselves, which is also mirrored.

3. Dialogue: One or more couples (time permitting) conducts a dialogue, supported by the group, using the dialogue format taught by Coach Sappho.

4. Debrief: After the dialogue we share our reactions and give feedback.

5. Planning: At the end of the meeting we confirm the next date and agend.

Past Couple's Circle meetings have been powerful, uplifting and good for each of the couples. Everything that happens between one couple - a thought, feeling, want, need, appreciation, issue, etc, - is usually something that touches us all, as the ups and downs of being in a relationship are pretty universal. We are able to learn and benefit from witnessing and supporting other couples going through what we go through.

To be good circle members, you must be...

  • genuinely motivated to work on your relationship
  • open and supportable to the group
  • able to provide support positively and without judgment

Coach Sappho's Couples Circles are not for everyone. Couples in trouble that do not have the skills to contain reactivity and follow a structured dialogue process are not appropriate for the circle and should work with me one-on-one or see a therapist.

How Can We Join Coach Sappho's Couple's Circle?

Coach Sappho is currently accepting new couples into the circle.  If you are interested in joining the circle, please email Barb Elgin right away as we keep the circles small to ensure lots of personalized attention!.   Each couple will have a 15 minute pre-screening call with Barb Elgin to ensure the circle is right for them at this time.
